There are times when life hands you lemons, and times when it hands you Lions. As the crew and I were getting ready to throw down another podcast I got a message from Rebel, asking me to call. She had an interesting story. She happened to be taking a walk when she noticed a van trailer combo with the hood up. There were several young men milling about and appeared to be stranded. She approached them asking if they needed help. They made conversation informing her that their van had broke down and the trailer popped a leaf spring. As some of them were shuffling music equipment out of the trailer she asked, “So, are you guys in a band?”. As it turns out they were the band Lions Lions. Rebel being Rebel, she extended hospitality to the young road warriors. Offering up pizza, showers and a place to plug in their various devices.
The following day I went to see Rebel, and had the opportunity to spend some time hanging out with Isaac Vigil, and Joshua Herzer of Lions Lions myself. I was amazed and humbled by the overall attitude, intelligence, character, and spirit of these guys. Not to mention the fact that these two have a wicked sense of humor. It turns out that Josh is a huge podcast fan. Far be it from me to capitalize on someone else’s misfortune, but I couldn’t help myself. I asked if they would like to sit down and record a segment for the Honest Brutality show. They not only agreed, but seemed genuinely excited. We had a blast discussing everything and anything that came to mind. I can’t wait to have them on the show again in the future.
This “interview” is very special to me. I walked away from my conversations with these young men with some new perspectives. The level of commitment and hard work to truly follow your passion. What life for a touring band is really like. The way I listen to music and process it. I also walked away with some new friends that I can’t wait to see again.
Check out the audio, then head over and check out their music (and buy some! they need a new van!).
A very cool sit down with some of the guys from Lions Lions.
